It follows record ticket sales to visit its five ‘live action’ haunted house sets and more than 100 roving character actors.

Scream parks, which have become hugely popular in the USA and now the UK, are live entertainment venues that simulate the experience of visiting haunted locations, with storylines typical of horror fiction and films.

BUY TICKETS: Hallowscream at York Maze, in Elvington Lane, is winner of Best UK Scream Park and is now open on selected nights until November 5. Tickets are from £26, plus a £1.50 booking fee. They are not available on the gate and must be booked in advance online, visit www.yorkmazehallowscream.co.uk

Children under 14 are not permitted and children under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult, including inside the haunted house attractions.

Hallowtween afternoons – aimed at families with children aged 10 to15 years – is open throughout October half term, 12.30pm to 5.30pm. Tickets are from £14.50, plus a £2 per transaction booking fee, which must also be purchased online at www.hallowtween.co.uk

This gives access to four of the scare houses, but without the actors inside and an age appropriate stage show. There are fairground rides, an opportunity to meet Halloween characters and see owls and birds of prey.

Adults of a nervous disposition, who might find Hallowscream too scary, are also welcome to attend Hallowtween.

Hallowscream is set on a farm with a story based around a terrible tragedy, said to have occurred back in 1873 – now the restless souls who died on that night returning each Halloween to torment those who dare to visit.

But be warned the frights aren't limited to the haunted houses, roving characters and live stage shows add to the atmosphere.

The central entertainment zone is all undercover where you can watch the spell binding stage acts, get a shout out from the resident DJ and an alcoholic drink to calm your nerves.

A Food Court marquee offers a range of delicious street food. Children aged 14/15 must be accompanied by an adult at all times and children under 14 will not be admitted.

As Halloween approaches, organisers have added two extra nights to meet demand.

York Maze owner Tom Pearcy said: “We were completely sold-out last year and are seeing very strong demand again this year with tickets for October weekends already sold out.

"We have decided to open for two extra nights on Friday and Saturday, November 4 and 5, to give as many people as possible the chance to experience our award-winning Hallowscream nights.

"We have invested in a brand-new stage to host Inferno, a new stage show hosted by the devil and featuring death defying acts and illusion.

"We also have a new outdoor stage for our Pyromania show with dancers from SLP College in Leeds, over a dozen flame cannons, lasers and projection mapping.

"There are changes to our five scare houses which are inhabited by over 100 actors each night from zombies to killer clowns, androids to chainsaw wielding grannies!”
