Leeds charged back from an 8-4 lunch-time deficit to gain their first victory of the season, besting neighbours Bradford 19-17 at Headingley, and Harrogate lie third after winning 22-14 against Teesside at Middlesbrough.

Halifax-Huddersfield had trailed York by two points after the morning foursomes, but Dewsbury’s Dan Hartley earned early parity with a win in the top singles over Pike Hills’ experienced combatant Martin Brown.

It was the first of half a dozen afternoon triumphs for the visitors, who also halved two matches.

Sheffield led only 8-4 at halfway against East Riding, but Neil Stones’s side dominated the singles 19-5, only two matches going against them while Lindrick’s Nathan Fell halved with Brough’s Mark Woodall.
