Yarnbury look on road to recovery

Yorkshire two: Pocklington maintained a two-point lead at the top with a 23-10 win over Roundhegians at Leeds, taking maximum points from the victory after scoring four tries.

Huddersfield YMCA ran in five tries in their 27-23 win at Doncaster Phoenix to keep on the pace in second place, but they had to rely on two late tries from winger Ed Barber, who claimed a hat-trick, to secure the victory.

Phoenix led for much of the game until Huddersfield took control in the last 15 minutes.

Yarnbury, who had had several players out through injury in their opening three games, moved off the bottom with a surprise 45-3 home victory over previous fifth-placed side Ripon.

Yarnbury scored six tries, including two in the first-half from winger Lawrence Smith, who was unlucky not to gain a hat-trick.

Debut centre James Metcalfe, who has joined from North Ribblesdale, also scored and there were others from full-back Ian Bartlett and second-row Ian Maycock before centre Jason Avison, last season's leading points scorer, scored his first try of the campaign.

Hullensians were indebted to the kicking skills of full-back Clayton McLeod, who helped his side to a 29-10 victory at Barnsley.

Left winger Joe Briggs scored an early try for the visitors to Shaw Lane, but the rest of their points came from McLeod's boot, with three first half penalties helping them to a 14-10 lead at the break, while he added five more in the second period to punish indiscipline.
