Andy Murray, Olly Golding and Laura Robson all suffered semi-final defeats at Wimbledon, but congratulations are due to 30-year-old Lucy Shuker who together with Australian partner Daniela Di Toro secured a place in the women's wheelchair doubles title match.

They delighted the Court 14 crowd yesterday by defeating France's Florence Alix-Gravellier and Holland's Jiske Griffioen, who were the second seeds, 7-6 (7/4) 3-6 6-3.

Shuker, from Fleet in Hampshire, is targeting an Olympic tennis medal in 2012, when the competition will be held at Wimbledon.

n Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will miss France's Davis Cup quarter-final against Spain next week because of a knee injury.

The 25-year-old, France's No 1, damaged the patellar tendon in his left knee during his run at Wimbledon, which ended with a quarter-final defeat to Andy Murray.

According to a statement on the French Tennis Federation website, he will be out for a minimum of four to six weeks.

Also out of the tie against Spain, which begins on Friday in Clermont-Ferrand, is Richard Gasquet, who has a slight side injury.

France still have Julien Benneteau, Michael Llodra and Gael Monfils available, with replacements for Tsonga and Gasquet to be named today.

n Last week it was the Queen, yesterday it was David Beckham.

Hollywood stars have been to Wimbledon during the Championships and hardly anyone batted an eyelid, but just as was the case with Queen Elizabeth II's visit on the first Thursday, there was huge interest in Beckham's visit.

So when his car pulled in through the gates, around the rear entrance of the club, the usually quiet lane leading to the VIP and players' entrance was suddenly invaded by screaming girls, journalists and film crews, all sprinting to secure a vantage point.

Truly, Beckham at Wimbledon was like nothing the tournament has ever known.

Forget Murray-mania, this was more akin to Beatle-mania.

n Serena Williams is always closely guarded wherever she goes to avoid the threat of stalkers but now, it seems, the boot is on the other foot.

The defending champion is such a big fan of American rock band Green Day that she has lost count of the number of times she has seen them play and is clearly worried it might affect her reputation.

"I'm a bit of a stalker," she joked. "I don't know how many I've been to. It's got to the point where I know the run of the show. I always know when the last song is coming, the encore. So it's a bit much.

"If I were them, I'd kind of watch out for me."

Serena also revealed how she would be relaxing ahead of the women's final.

She said: "I'm going to watch some Desperate Housewives because I have to catch up."
