Wharfedale aiming to keep their focus

The 31-year-old Scotland A prop took over as head coach of the Yorkshire Cup winners in the summer, succeeding former Leeds Carnegie team-mate Jason Strange who helped Wharfedale secure a top-six finish in National One.

Victory at Redruth last week sets them up perfectly for today's visit of Yorkshire rivals Otley.

"My job this week is to keep the guys emotionally controlled," said McGee, who also coaches the Leeds Metropolitan University team.

"It's a big game for the club and it is my responsibility to keep the players focused. It's difficult for me to set targets for the season.

"If we play to our potential we have a hugely talented squad. If we believe in ourselves, then who knows where that might take us.

"I've got to build a mentality, a game plan, a structure and a confidence – these things take time.

"Ambitions of the club, and of myself, are high, but that will take care of itself when we get the fundamentals right."

The Greens are without James Druce and fly-half Tom Barrett who both broke hands at Redruth.

Otley hope to have exciting new centre signing Toby Quarendon from Harlequins in the team today.

The game doubles up as a Yorkshire Cup first-round tie.
