St Leger form looking a pointer for Talent

The daughter of New Approach was an emphatic winner of the Epsom Oaks and ran a tremendous race in the St Leger when second to Leading Light to make amends for a poor run in the Irish Oaks.

“She’s been training well and we’re happy with her. She looks to be in the same nick. She hasn’t changed her coat and doesn’t appear to have gone off the boil,” he said. “We’re looking forward to it. She’s not an easy filly to read but we think we’re on the right leg.

“All year, she only does what she has to. We have to change her training regime around for her. We’ve done that again since Doncaster and we’re looking forward to running her.

“We were thrilled with her at Doncaster. I felt like we’d won because Ireland was such a disaster and to run a race like that was everything we’d hoped. We just got beaten by a better horse.”

The Lark was third behind Talent at Epsom and took the fillies’ St Leger, the Park Hill Stakes, at Doncaster. Her trainer, Michael Bell, is hopeful that soft conditions will suit. “All her family appear to like the ground and she appears to like it at home,” he said.
