Miller’s magic halts the run of Workington

Town had chalked up a series of impressive victories under coach Phil Veivers and came into the game as the form team in the Championship but after soaking up an early spell of intense pressure Doncaster took charge and controlled the game until Workington hit back with a couple of consolation tries in the closing stages.

Dual-registered scrum-half Jacob Miller put the home team on the path to victory with a couple of super solo tries in the first 20 minutes.

Miller jinked his way through in the 12th minute and repeated the feat eight minutes later with Stewart Sanderson tagging on the points.

The Hull half back looked like recording a hat-trick after latching onto Mark Castle’s off-load just before the interval but slipped on the greasy surface as he tried to round the full-back.

Steve Snitch increased Doncaster’s lead early in the second half before tries from Pasqualle Dunn and Liam Cunningham turned it into a procession.

Workington hit back with tries from Kris Coward and Liam McAvoy but Doncaster had the last word when Shaun Leaf asserted their superiority with an injury-time try in the corner with Sanderson kicking his sixth goal of the match.
