Welham has agreed an initial one-year deal with the option of a second year, starting from the 2021 Championship campaign.

The 33-year-old has become a key figure in Ian Watson’s Salford side, helping the Red Devils upset the odds to reach the Super League Grand Final and Challenge Cup Final, in 2019 and 2020 respectively.

Welham came through the ranks at Hull KR, where he spent nine years before joining Bradford Bulls in 2015 which then led to his move to Salford two years later.

The centre has made over 300 appearances and scored over 160 tries in his career and he becomes the second signing from Salford to Featherstone this year after Connor Jones was announced as a 2021 Featherstone player earlier this month.

Rovers’ latest addition will also know well by head coach James Webster, as the two played together at Hull KR in the early days of Welham’s career.

He said: “I have been lucky enough to have known Kris since we played together at Hull KR. His try scoring record over a career that has spanned close to 15 years shows the quality he possesses.

“Even when highlighting his fantastic try scoring record, it is his attitude and effort within the clubs that he has represented that will always be his biggest asset.

"He is a fantastic club man that will always play his heart out for the shirt and those that come and spend their hard-earned cash every week to watch the sport.”

Rovers football manager Steve Gill added: "We are really pleased to have been able to add Kris to the ranks, he has been one of the top centres in the Super League for several years now.

“I’m happy with the squad we have assembled and the growing culture within it, Kris will add massively to this and his experience will be invaluable to the squad as we look to build towards something special here at Featherstone.”
