Huddersfield Giants boss Ian Watson overlooked for Super League Coach of the Year shortlist

Ian Watson has missed out on the 2022 Super League Coach of the Year shortlist despite taking Huddersfield Giants from ninth to third in the space of 12 months.

The Giants emerged as genuine title contenders in the early part of the year and never dropped out of the top six on their way to securing a first play-off appearance since 2015.

Away from Super League, Huddersfield reached the Challenge Cup final where they were narrowly beaten by Wigan Warriors.

Watson's men will continue their pursuit of a maiden Super League title when they host Salford Red Devils in Saturday's play-off eliminator.

Salford boss Paul Rowley has been included on the three-man shortlist after overseeing a late-season charge to the play-offs.

Rowley inherited a side that finished second bottom under Richard Marshall in 2021.

The other nominees are Wigan’s Matt Peet and Kristian Woolf of St Helens, with the winner to be announced at Headingley on Monday, September 19.
