Giants allow Chan to join injury-hit Rovers

The Papua New Guinea star, 30, has made 16 appearances for the West Yorkshire club this year but is currently out of favour and, also, out of contract at the end of the year.

Chan, who joined from Crusaders ahead of 2012, had been a central figure in the side that lifted the League Leaders’ Shield last season, the first Huddersfield team to finish top in 81 years.

He was heavily involved earlier this term, too, but has been left out for the last three weeks since playing in a 38-22 defeat of London Broncos.

Instead, Chan could debut for Rovers in Sunday’s home game versus Salford Red Devils.

“We’ve got one or two injuries in the pack at the moment so to bring in such a quality player at this stage of the year is a real bonus for the club,” said Hull KR caretaker coach Chris Chester.

“I’d like to thank Huddersfield for their co-operation in allowing Jason to go out on loan and we are excited to have him on board.”

Chan met his new team-mates for training yesterday morning with Huddersfield managing director Richard Thewlis explaining his club’s stance.

“We offered Jason and his manager different options to remain at the club going forward over the past few months all of which they rejected,” he said.

“Thus, with Jason being out of contract at the end of this year, his manager asked if we’d consider a loan period to help him.

“Given his excellent service to us and with him not being in our side at the present time a deal with Hull Kingston Rovers was reached for Jason’s benefit.

“We wish Jason every possible success and thank him for his contribution to our club.”
