Round-Up: Furbank keeps Driffield in top spot

Yorkshire One: Driffield maintained their two-point lead over Bridlington when they came from behind to score a 29-22 win at Castleford, while Bridlington were held to an even closer margin at home to third-placed Heath.

Castleford opened up a 19-5 interval lead before Driffield took control, and the Woldsmen went 29-19 ahead before the home side salvaged a losing bonus point with a late penalty.

Full-back Sam Furbank scored a hat-trick of tries for Driffield, while centre William Ollett added another and Lee Birch kicked three conversions and a penalty.

For the second week running, second-placed Bridlington won by a single point, scraping a 30-29 verdict over Heath.

As Ilkley and York fought out a 12-12 draw at Clifton Park, Pocklington and Scarborough both moved up with decisive home wins.

Pocklington’s 34-6 home victory over North Ribblesdale saw them jump from eighth to fifth.

Ribblesdale took an early lead with a penalty from inside his own half by teenager Will Davidson, but Pocklington got back on track with a try by centre Tim Nixon, and they turned round 13-3 ahead as Jack Holbrough ran in the first of his hat-trick of tries and Nick Bennett added a penalty.

Pocklington were also awarded a penalty try, while the visitors’ only reply was Davidson’s second penalty.

Scarborough ran in six tries on their way to a 44-5 home victory over a depleted Dinnington, who had seven first-choice players missing.

Tom Ratcliffe (3), Rob James, Marcus Edwards and Rob Squire scored the Scarborough tries.

Keighley also collected a four-try bonus on their way to a 24-19 win at Pontefract.

Yorkshire Two: In a battle between the top two clubs, Leodiensians moved further clear of Barnsley with a runaway 39-16 victory at Shaw Lane.

Barnsley led 9-8 at half-time, but Leos ran in tries from stand-off James Henry (2), centre Simon Worrall (2),winger Tom Bindloss and Mark Winter, while Nick Wainwright kicked three conversions and Henry added an early penalty.

Yarnbury are still level with Barnsley despite a 52-22 hammering at home to Bradford Salem, who are now just two points behind.

Yarnbury led 22-0 at the break, but conceded 52 unanswered points in the second half which included two tries each from wingers Tony Williams and Danny Thomas.

West Park Leeds stay level with Salem after claiming a bonus point in their 43-13 home triumph over Moortown.

The big losers on the day were Wath on Dearne, who slipped behind both Salem and West Park when a lacklustre performance saw them crash to a 25-6 defeat at Hullensians, whose three tries were all the result of Wath’s errors.

Selby earned a 21-15 home victory over Doncaster Phoenix.Defences cancelled each other out in a poor first half which produced no score, but Selby went ahead soon after the turnround when centre Alex Webster crossed for a try which Den Booth converted.

Phoenix equalised with a try by winger Mick Sykes, converted by Ben Millar, but within two minutes Selby had gone ahead again as Booth converted a try from full-back Ben Lunt.

Phoenix then edged 15-14 in front with a try by winger Adam Burton and a penalty from Millar, but they were left to salvage a losing bonus point when Webster ran 70 metres to score his second.

West Park Leeds ran out 43-13 winners over Moortown, which included two tries from Ali Booth.

Yorkshire Three: Roundhegians stretched their lead at the top when they ran in 10 tries on their way to a 62-5 victory at bottom placed Halifax Vandals.

Captain a Matt Loughney and Tim Smith both touched down twice, and there were other tries from Kyle Sutcliffe, Johnny Flowers, Sam Trueman and Simon Cummings.

Rotherham Phoenix are still second, but after being 12-11 down with 10 minutes remaining they clinched the game when Nathan Bird touched down.

Sheffield Medicals scored six tries in a 32-0 home victory over Old Modernians. Ben Gabbott crossed twice, and there were tries from Michael Watters, Matt Clark, hooker Alastair Shaw and Yousef Salamoni.

Bramley Phoenix fought from behind for an 11-7 home win over Thornensians. They had No 8 Jamie Pickard sent off and Thorne took the lead when Cliff Walker touched down between the posts.

Phoenix swung the match with a try by winger Johnny Filin and Coates’s second penalty.

York RI ran out 39-10 winners at Old Rishworthians. Hessle pulled off their first win of the campaign when they scraped a 17-15 verdict at home to Northallerton.
