The 24-year-old, in the Aegon International on a wild card, removed world No 8 Ekaterina Makarova on Tuesday and followed up that scalp with a 6-4 4-6 6-3 defeat of 14th seed Muguruza yesterday.

She will next face Swiss teenager Belinda Bencic, who was leading Eugenie Bouchard 6-4 3-0 before the Canadian retired hurt from their third-round clash at Devonshire Park.

Australia-born Konta is ranked 146th in the world and has been handed a wild card into Wimbledon, which begins on Monday.

Serena Williams is the top seed as she looks to seal her sixth singles title at Wimbledon.

Britain’s Heather Watson misses out on a seeding after her WTA ranking dropped to 64, but Laura Robson has been handed a wildcard after injury.

In the men’s draw, Andy Murray will be the No 3 seed at Wimbledon while Rafael Nadal has dropped to 10th.

The Scot will be keen to steer clear of Nadal in tomorrow’s draw, given the Spaniard could meet any of the top four seeds as early as the quarter-finals.

Nadal was seeded second at Wimbledon last year but a lack of form and fitness has seen the Spaniard tumble down the ATP rankings.

World No 1 Novak Djokovic is seeded first while Roger Federer, bidding for a record eighth singles title in SW19, is second.

Katie Swan’s Wimbledon dream is over for this year after the teenager was beaten 6-3 6-3 by two-time quarter-finalist Tamira Paszek in the second round of qualifying.

Sixteen-year-old Swan had stunned world 118 Kristina Kucova in the first round but could not make it past her Austrian opponent on Wednesday.

Dan Evans, however, is through to the final stage of qualifying after he defeated German eighth seed Matthias Bachinger 6-4 0-6 7-5 to progress.

Evans is the sole home player through to the third and final round after Britons Josh Milton, Tara Moore, Katy Dunne and Edward Corrie were all eliminated at Roehampton.
