Rookie Fisher enjoying dream come true as Tiger lies in wait

Ross Fisher is determined to enjoy every minute of his Ryder Cup debut this week.

Fisher is among six rookies in Colin Montgomerie's team and has been thrown straight into the action as Ian Poulter's sidekick against Tiger Woods and Steve Stricker.

And he admits his selection is the realisation of a boyhood dream to tee it up in golf's biggest team event.

"It was very special as a youngster getting videos and stuff for Christmas, Ryder Cup videos," he recalled. "Obviously, having the relationship at Wentworth (Fisher was on a golfing scholarship there) and seeing Bernard Gallacher up there was pretty special. He actually brought the trophy into the pro-shop at Wentworth for a couple of weeks in 1995 when they won it in the States. That was pretty special.

"As juniors, to have watched Ryder Cups is one thing, but to see it there in the flesh and have a chance to have your picture taken with it, it gave me goosebumps.

"You practice hard and hope that one day this will come. Obviously for me, it's here – it's a dream come true.

"This is a very special week. I am part of a lead group of golfers in Europe, and I feel very proud to be in the team room.

"If I go out there this week and don't enjoy it, I'm obviously doing something wrong and shouldn't be playing golf.

"Because if you're not going to enjoy this, there is something wrong with you. It's a very special event to be a part of."

Prolonged heavy rain in practice has failed to dampen his enthusiasm.

"A lot of the Americans don't really play too much golf in the rain," he added. It could potentially favour the Europeans."
