Otley 24 Barking 41: Wilson earns Otley bonus

OTLEY produced their now expected brand of exciting rugby and scored four fine tries but the visitors pounced ruthlessly on lapses of concentration from their hosts.

Otley twice lost possession on the line and a forward pass prevented winger Curtis Wilson enjoying an unopposed run-in from 15 metres.

Barking were clinical in taking their opportunities.

Their solid forward work and powerful running fully tested Otley, who were caught cold at the start of each half, as Barking demonstrated why they top the league.

A break by Barking centre Scott Alfled was taken on by winger Nicholas Fraser, who handed on to No 6 James Ngan who went over on just two minutes and full-back Adam Armstrong kicked the first of his four conversions.

Otley bounced straight back, the forwards securing the re-start to drive on before releasing for fly-half Will Nelson to cut through and then convert.

Barking built a 27-7 half-time lead with tries from Armstrong, who also kicked a penalty, hooker Marcus Bloomberg and scrum-half Luke Greatrex and, securing the re-start after the break, they shipped the ball across to Fraser, who raced in.

The try of the match went to Nelson. Receiving the ball from a kick ahead, he ran through the Barking defence to score and convert then, with Otley playing well, winger James Twomey hared in at the corner.

Their revival was checked when replacement Lee Griffiths scored for the visitors.

Otley had the last word when Stephen Depledge broke from a scrum 40 metres out, centre James White made ground before handing on to Wilson, who left the defence for dead to earn a bonus point.
