Grand National: Ryan Mania replaces injured Henry Brooke on Defintly Red

HENRY Brooke has been ruled out of today’s Randox Grand National where he was due to partner the Yorkshire challenger Definitly Red.

The Middleham jockey suffered a heavy fall after being unseated from Raving Bonkers at Sedgefield yesterday.

However he said he had not sufficiently recovered this  morning and the ride goes to Ryan Mania who rode Auroras Encore to victory in the 2013 National for Yorkshire racing legends Sue and Harvey Smith.Mania had been due to ride at Newcastle today and remains buoyed by last month’s Cheltenham Festival-winning ride on Vintage Clouds.

Brooke’s misfortune paves the way for Mania to have his first National wide since making his comeback 18 months ago.

Definitly Red, owned by Phil and Julie Martin, is the winner of four Grade Two races and trained at Malton by Brian Ellison who confirmed the jockey switch.

Brooke indicated last night to the trainer that he was suffering no ill-effects from the fall, but said he didn’t feel up to driving to Merseyside this morning.
