Leyton Orient v Huddersfield Town: Clark hopes to protect passing game after Lee's arrival

League one: LEE CLARK has warned his Huddersfield Town side not to use the presence of Alan Lee up front as an excuse to resort to long-ball football.

The Terriers manager was left frustrated by the performance last weekend in the 2-2 draw at home to Bournemouth. Clark felt having 6ft 2ins Lee in attack led to some of his players taking the easy option rather than looking to play the sort of football he wants to see.

He said: "I watched the footage of last Saturday's game and we need to get back to being a football side. Because we have a player like Alan Lee in the side, who is very good in the air and competitive, I think we got sucked into a scenario where we played too many long passes.

"We have that option as part of our armoury, but we are good at getting the ball down and passing it. I didn't think we did that at all last weekend.

"When we did put passing sequences together, we created opportunities against Bournemouth and that is something I would like us to get back to at Leyton Orient."

Town slipped out of the top six in the fledgling table courtesy of dropping two points against the Cherries.

Clark has not revealed his starting line-up, so it is not known if teenage left-back Liam Ridehalgh will retain his place in the absence of injured Gary Naysmith who was this week ruled out for four months following surgery on his broken toe.

One man also hoping to stay in the side is Antony Kay, who after making 40 league appearances last season did not feature in the opening three matches this time around after being switched from midfield to defence.

The 27-year-old has, however, started the last two games and netted Town's opening goal against Bournemouth.

Kay said: "The gaffer said he wanted me to play centre-half at the beginning of the season and I was happy with that, but not getting in the team.

"Obviously, I am like every footballer – I am disappointed when I am not involved.

"But, after a few games of the season, he told me I would be going back into midfield and I was delighted. I think I have done well in the last two games so, hopefully, I can keep my spot.

"Having been out of the team and then come back, played half decent and got a goal against Bournemouth, it was an emotional moment.

"Now I am back in the team, I know I have to work even harder to keep my place.

"I want to prove to everyone that this is my position by making it my own."
