Leeds triallists are given chance to impress in Cup

Leeds Carnegie will hand trials to three players for tonight’s British and Irish Cup match with Yorkshire rivals Doncaster Knights.

Blaydon lock Ben Morris, Otley No 8 Steve Costello and former Hull KR rugby league player Jack Latus will all have the opportunity to impress Leeds head coach Diccon Edwards.

“There are a number of first-team squad members who will be looking to press their claims for a place in the Championship side as the likes of Chris Walker, Richard Beck and Tommy Bell did in our last Cup game against Rotherham,” said Edwards.

“The rules of the competition allow us to bring players in on trial and I am sure they will benefit from the experience of playing with us and we get the chance to have a look at them.”

Doncaster will also ring the changes with five Sheffield Tigers players drafted in to bolster their squad. Head coach Brett Davey even played in their opening Cup defeat to Nottingham.

“We want do try and do well in the B & I Cup and we’ll try and ride the wave for as long as we can,” said Davey, whose side are unbeaten in four league games.
