SHEFFIELD Wednesday winger Jermaine Johnson has been ruled out for the next six weeks with a torn hamstring.

Manager Alan Irvine described the news as a ‘big blow’ last night after scans revealed the full extent of the injury suffered by Johnson in the midweek victory at Blackpool.

Irvine hopes to learn even more about his players this afternoon – good or bad – when they host bottom club Peterborough United.

The Owls are aiming to complete a hat-trick of victories in Irvine’s first three games as manager.

“I always felt that there were players here with ability and that is being re-inforced every day,” he said. “But I am still learning about their characters.

People told me before the Blackpool game that we had not won back to back games for a long time, they were telling me that we had got a group who may well rest on their laurels a little bit and think ‘great we have won two games away, Peterborough at home is going to be easy’.

“Well, I have not seen any evidence of that as yet.”
