Grateful Finch back into the swing with relish after coming through tough year

Richard Finch is relishing being able to plan his own schedule again after a season in which he was reliant on other people.

The 37-year-old from Hull lost his European Tour card after the 2013 season but instantly made the most of sponsors’ invites to win nearly enough money in the first two tournaments of the 2014 season to regain his playing rights.

Although he could not replicate that form through much of the year, Finch won enough through sponsors invites and a low category to finish 100th on the order of merit and book an 11th season among the continent’s elite.

Grateful for the support shown by his long-time management company ISM and contacts, Finch is now ready to get back to controlling his own fate.

“Last season would not have been possible without securing sponsors invitations to certain events and I’d like to thank the people responsible for helping me out during a difficult year,” said Finch, who joins Matt Fitzpatrick and John Parry at the South African Open Championship from today.

“It’s been great way to find out who my friends are. But I now look forward to being able to plan this season with much more confidence.”

Finch started the 2015 campaign with a missed cut before Christmas and has not qualified for the weekend since July.
