York City v Histon: Mills banking on Bootham form

GARY MILLS believes York City’s impressive home form could be crucial in the race for the Blue Square play-offs.

The Minstermen host struggling Histon today in fine heart due to having won their last eight league games at Bootham Crescent.

York’s hopes of forcing their way into the top five suffered a setback last weekend when they lost 2-1 at Cambridge United.

However, with six of their remaining nine league games due to be played at home, Mills is backing his side to make a concerted push for the play-offs.

He said: “Our home form has been good since I arrived (last October) and we have to keep that up. If we can, it could make all the difference – especially as we have so many games still to play at home.

“I fully expect it (the race for a place in the top five) to go down to the last day. Fleetwood are sticking in there, while there are a lot of us trying to force our way up the table.

“It was disappointing to lose last weekend but I have told the players what matters now is how we respond. We had been on a good run before losing to Cambridge so there is no reason why we can’t go on a good run again.”

York slipped back to seventh with defeat at the Abbey Stadium and are four points adrift of the play-offs with a game in hand.

On-loan Leicester City winger Ashley Chambers is set to return after a two-game absence with a hamstring injury which may prompt Mills into a return to a more attacking 4-3-3 formation.
