York City 0 Eastbourne 1: Minstermen badly miss Brodie

YORK CITY'S lack of a cutting edge in the absence of suspended leading scorer Richard Brodie was a major factor as they plunged to their first home defeat since April last year.

Brodie, serving the second of a three-match ban, misses the FA Trophy tie at Barrow tomorrow, but is available on Saturday at Forest Green.

His return can not come soon enough as York have failed to score in their last three games from which they have taken only one point.

Relegation-haunted Eastbourne played a 4-5-1 formation and York never found an answer with Michael Gash and Michael Rankine innocuous up front, although they received poor service from midfield.

It was only when Richard Pacquette replaced Gash that York threatened in the closing stages, Pacquette and David McGurk hitting the bar. But a point would have been more than York deserved from their worst home display of the season.

They were not helped by an early hamstring injury to midfield playmaker Alex Lawless, although replacement Adam Smith added much needed width to the York attack.

Liam Enver-Marum's 70th-minute goal, taking advantage of Neil Barrett's mistake before beating Michael Ingham at the near post, won the game.

"No excuses, Eastbourne battled better than we did. There were a few things wrong all over the pitch today," said York manager Martin Foyle.
