There is plenty of work still to do says Moore

ROTHERHAM United manager Ronnie Moore kept a lid on his side's post-match celebrations after victory over Aldershot.

Although the Millers will take a 1-0 advantage into the home leg of this League Two play-off semi-final, Moore has stressed that the game is far from over.

"We are delighted but nothing is done yet and no one is getting over-excited," he said.

"We are not all cheering and jumping up and down because it's only half-time and there is still an awful lot of work to do."

A late goal from Adam Le Fondre puts the Millers in the driving seat ahead of Wednesday's return at the Don Valley Stadium and also justified Moore's decision to rest the striker in the previous game at Hereford United.

Moore said: "As managers, you make those decisions and I felt he needed a rest. When you have someone like that in the side, it makes a difference having them fresh. He doesn't miss that many chances and, hopefully, he can get a couple more for us on Wednesday."

The future of Le Fondre, who has scored 29 goals this season, continues to be a subject of speculation with the striker determined to play at a higher level next season.

Moore has stressed his desire to keep the 23-year-old but also admits that every player has a price.

"At the moment, he has got two more years left on his contract and, as far as I and the chairman are concerned, he will still be here next season.

"We have a chairman who doesn't have to sell but if someone is daft enough to come in with 3m or 4m maybe it will be done," he added.

"I want him to stay and if he gets another 20-odd goals next season maybe the big move that he is talking about will come.

"He is a cocky player, full of confidence and he does score goals. He reminds me of John Aldridge (the former Liverpool and Republic of Ireland striker) – he is sharp and very clever, we just have to improve his work-rate."

Reflecting on his side's impressive display this weekend, Moore said: "It was a tremendous team performance. The back four won everything and, if we defend like we did today, we will win the next game."

Striker Ryan Taylor was a shock inclusion in the Millers' side just days after returning from a loan spell at Exeter City where he helped the Grecians avoid relegation from League One.

Moore said: "He worked his socks off and had one of the best chances of the game. We have tried everybody else up there and need a partner for

Le Fondre.

"Ryan has come back from Exeter a different player and person," he said. "I didn't even know he could talk but I heard him talking the other day. That's the first time in 12 months since I have been at the club."

Aldershot manager Kevin Dillon, meanwhile, felt Rotherham's late winning goal was cruel on his players, particularly defender Aaron Brown, whose poor back- header let in Le Fondre.

"What happened for the goal was out of context with the rest of the game," he said.

"It was just a moment where Aaron didn't look and it was a great finish.

"It's only half-time, we have to go there and win by one goal and then anything can happen in extra-time."
