Supporters call on Sheffield Wednesday board to end the 'silence'

SHEFFIELD Wednesday have been urged to break the on-going silence surrounding the club's financial plight.

Fans group, Wednesdayite, who own a 10 per cent stake in the League One club, want answers from chief executive Nick Parker.

Parker last met the group's representatives when news of a winding-up petition, served by HM Revenue and Customs, broke nearly a month ago.

The Owls were given 28 days to settle the outstanding tax bill by the High Court last week but Wednesdayite are concerned that Parker has not yet arranged to address a public meeting of supporters.

In a statement released last night, Wednesdayite said: "We wrote to Mr Parker seeking written clarification about a number of concerns pertaining to the current financial situation at the club.

"We had hoped to discuss the club's written response at our board meeting with a view to formally updating our members on the situation. Mr Parker has not been prepared to respond in writing but we have spoken with him.

"We asked if he would address an open meeting of fans and shareholders to explain what is happening with the club's finances.

"A meeting like this, preferably with other board members too, would help us all to assess how best we can assist the club going forward.

"Mr Parker indicated that he would be prepared to do this so we will be urging the club to announce a date for this public meeting as soon as possible."
