Former Crewe striker Miller – who was on loan at Shrewsbury Town last season after recovering from a long-term injury – will not have his contract renewed and is sure to attract attention over the summer.

Others leaving the Blades include veteran defender Matt Hill, Darryl Westlake, Sean McGinty, Elliott Whitehouse, Jasper Johns, Jordan Hodder and Jahmal Smith.

The Blades are in talks with striker Chris Porter to keep him at Bramall Lane, while there are new deals for goalkeeper Mark Howard, Bob Harris and Terry Kennedy.

“There have been some tough decisions but we need to make way for new faces,” said Blades manager Nigel Clough.

“It is difficult, especially when you are dealing with good characters.

“Chris Porter’s situation is a little different.

“We’ve not taken up his option and because of that he has to go on the list of free transfers but we are still talking with regards to a new contract.”
