Low points return no real concern for Sheffield United youngster Reed

A RUN of one win in five matches may not exactly be promotion form for Sheffield United, but midfielder Louis Reed is remaining calm.

The teenager was restored to the starting line-up for Tuesday night’s goalless draw at League One leaders Burton Albion and while promotion favourites Blades have taken only five points from the last 15, Reed believes that haul is slightly skewed.

“It is not the best run, but performances have been decent,” said Reed.

“Obviously, the results have not gone our way, whether it be a set-piece or a few dodgy refereeing decisions.

“But we went to Burton with a great spirit and character and got a good point.

“At the leaders, we knew it would be a test. But I think we stood up to it.”

Meanwhile, Che Adams will return to the fray for this weekend’s trip to Port Vale after Blades boss Nigel Adkins confirmed he missed the game at Burton due to disciplinary reasons relating to his conduct after the derby with Doncaster Rovers at the weekend.

Adkins said: “Che was not involved because, from my point of view, he chose to deselect himself over the weekend.

“It’s a minor thing but he needs to learn from it and I’m sure he has.

“We’ll keep it ‘in-house’ because it’s about educating players and them understanding what we expect from professionals.

“Maybe, over the weekend, he’s not quite lived up to that.”

Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith has received an England Under-20 international call-up for the forthcoming Elite Cup in Germany.

The friendly tournament will incorporate three games for the young Lions in October – against the Netherlands, Turkey and host nation Germany.

The teenager has impressed between the sticks when called upon in the absence of Keiren Westwood, making his debut for the Owls in the Capital One Cup against Mansfield.

Wildsmith went on to post a maiden league start at Burnley, before recording clean sheets against Bolton and Newcastle respectively.

He signed a contract extension with the Owls in August this year.
