Blades in double swoop for Basham and Butler

SHEFFIELD UNITED have taken their number of summer signings to four after making a double swoop to sign Blackpool midfielder Chris Basham and Walsall centre-half Andy Butler.

Basham, 25, out of contract at Bloomfield Road, made 42 appearances for the Seasiders last term, while the arrival of 30-year-old Doncaster-born defender Andy Butler was widely anticipated.

The former Walsall captain, who still lives in South Yorkshire, recently rejected a new deal with the Saddlers, with hometown club Doncaster Rovers and Bradford City also linked with moves.

The double captures follow on from the signings of former Barnsley and Rotherham winger Jamal Campbell-Ryce and Livingston midfielder Marc McNulty.

Butler has signed a two-year deal with Basham penning a three-year contract.
