Rotherham chase striker as Evans handed cash for January signing

Rotherham manager Steve Evans wants one permanent signing and two loan captures during January.

Evans has made a goalscorer his priority and has a six-figure sum to play with.

He has already had bids rejected for Bournemouth’s Matt Tubbs, Celtic’s Tony Watt and MK Dons’ Ryan Lowe in recent months.

Evans has also been linked to Wolves front man Leigh Griffiths who is on loan at Hibernian and keen to stay at the Scottish Premier League club. Peterborough’s Danny Kearns is also on the radar.

“We are trying to add three players and discussions are taking place with those football clubs. For me that would involve one more permanent signing and two loan signings,” confirmed Evans.

The club also remain in talks with Peterborough United about making the loan deal for Lee Frecklington a permanent one, although the Millers face opposition from a number of clubs.

Evans has already begun creating space in his squad for any new recruits. Namesake Gareth Evans has left the club by mutual consent after 49 appearances since joining the club in 2011.

And Nicky Hunt has joined Accrington Stanley on a one-month emergency loan.

Rotherham travel to Rochdale today having won their last four away games to the loss of just one goal.

‘Dale entered the festive period in poor form but put four past Bradford last Saturday.

“They completely dominated Bradford from what I heard,” said Evans. “They have very talented players, will be very organised and we go up there when they are playing very well.
