Rotherham United will need bid they '˜can't refuse' to be tempted to sell Danny Ward

CARETAKER manager Paul Warne has stressed that Rotherham United will only consider letting Danny Ward leave for 'really good' money and insists he is under no pressure to sell.

The Millers’ top scorer, the one bright spark from an abject campaign, has been linked with a January move to several rival Championship clubs, including former club Huddersfield Town and Sheffield Wednesday.

Town head coach David Wagner has revealed that the club plan to make at least one more signing this month, but yesterday refused to discuss if there would be a bid to bring back Ward.

One unnamed club saw an offer for Ward turned down last week, with Warne saying that there have been no fresh offers, to his knowledge.

Warne, who has rubbished talk of the Millers bidding £850,000 for free-scoring Grimsby Town forward Omar Bogle, said: “I understand there is going to be attention about him (Ward) all the time and understand as well that there have been phone calls.

“But I am not aware of any unbelievable offer. I met the chairman (yesterday) and his opinion stays the same – the club don’t need the money and they don’t have to sell if they don’t want to sell.

“Unless the money is really good, we are not going to sell. I have a good relationship with Danny and if he stays here until the summer or the one after and all parties are happy with that, then good. I have friends at other clubs, big clubs, and they have got him on their radar. But it all depends on what movement they get and budget they have got left.

“Whether someone comes in for him and it’s an offer we can’t refuse, I don’t honestly know.”

Warne has brought in ex-Millers team-mate Mike Pollitt as the club’s new goalkeeping coach following Andy Dibble’s exit to Cardiff City, and is hopeful of further recruitment shortly.

One player who is under consideration is Leeds United midfielder Toumani Diagouraga, a player who Warne rates and, while Bogle is on the Millers’ radar, talk of a big-money bid have been quickly rebuffed.

Warne, who said that the agent of loanee Scott Allan is attempting to fix him up with another club, said: “I have seen the figure what has been put out there. I can categorically say that we haven’t offered that figure. That’s definitely not the case.”
