Rotherham United transfer news: Millers get their man

ROTHERHAM UNITED manager Paul Warne has revealed his delight at finally landing main midfield target Lewis Wing after several previous failed attempts to sign the Middlesbrough player.

Wing has joined the Millers on loan for the rest of the season and is the club's second arrival in the window following on from the addition of Wolves left wing-back Ryan Giles.

On bringing in Wing, 25, who has struggled for regular first-team action until Neil Warnock this season, Warne said: “This sounds like a broken record, but we have kept track of him for about three years now.

"When he broke into the team at Boro, we thought we were going to get him on loan that year, but he went on an absolute stormer.

“He is really good. I like him for many reasons. He has got an eye for a goal and shoots on sight and we definitely need to add more goals to us.

“He has a real energy about him and can take set-pieces and play in any one of those four positions in the middle of the park.

“But the best thing for me is that he has got an inner drive and is just a winner. He is not a scrapper, but drives the team forward and is desperate to play football.

“He is a great kid who came from non-league and he had to fight and scrap to get his chance."

Meanwhile, Warne is confident that Wing's qualities in the middle of the park, set-piece abilities and goalscoring ability will give his side's survival prospects a massive boost.

On Wing, who has made 15 appearances fore the Teessiders this term, scoring two goals in the pre-Christmas win at Birmingham, Warne added:“He has just found himself on the wrong side of a team selection or two. That does not mean he is a bad player. Football is all about opinions.

“He can come here and play a massive part in our run-in and hopefully have a positive impact on the team and put himself in the shop window for whatever happens in his career. He is right up my street, obviously.

“He is happy to play for a team who want to play forward and run forward, create chances, shoot and play without pressure in the final third. We convinced him to play football here for a few months and couldn’t be happier.”
