Mattock, out with an ankle issue since early December, will join up with the first-team group on Sunday.

Warne said: “Mattock is not joining in until Sunday. But he has done lots of running, so it should not take him too long. Although we are trying to get a little ‘bounce’ game at the training ground next week to try and give some a little top-up.

“Robbo has trained for a while now, but just has got a little bit of awareness in his hamstring. Chieo is fine, although a little bit rusty. He nearly scored a wonder goal yesterday (Wednesday) so he told the lads he was back. So he is fine and available to travel, which is good.

“Jamie Lindsay, out of all of them, is the furthest forward and he is definitely ready to go."

Friday's game at Millwall is the first of a gruelling and season-defining run of 12 games in 36 days which will decide the Millers' Championship fate.

Warne admits that the roster - and specifically a four-match schedule in the space of eight days in the middle of April - is not ideal, but he insists that his squad will play with the cards that they have been dealt with.

He added: “It was not the one I wanted, but I also have to understand that there are 23 other clubs in the league and someone has to officiate it all and it cannot be an easy thing to keep everyone happy.

“Unfortunately, for us, through no fault of our own, it all comes down onto us.

“I said back in December or January that it would be great to extend the league, but that was possibly a bit naive of me. But we have been the only team who have been hit the hardest and if there were three or four teams, there might have been an extension. But that is not to be and we have to get the games in.

“It is not the ideal choice, but we have got to accept it and there is no point crying about it and the lads know the situation."
