Peterborough United v Huddersfield Town: Hunt has chance at last to exact revenge

Town face the East Anglians for the first time since being turned over 3-0 by Craig Mackail-Smith-inspired Posh in front of a crowd of around 50,000 at Old Trafford almost 18 months ago.

Full-back Hunt, who along with captain Peter Clarke and Danny Ward is expected to be one of three survivors in the starting line-up from that game at London Road this evening, admits that defeat still rankles.

He said: “The lads that were here will say that we owe them one. But we are going there, two years later, with us both being in the same league, so we just need to go there and, from my point of view, hopefully beat them 6-0.”

Town’s confidence is sky-high ahead of tonight’s trip south after jumping up to third in the Championship following a fine 2-1 weekend win over much-fancied Wolves, although manager Simon Grayson is adamant that the test at rock-bottom Posh will be a tougher one than the game with the Black Country outfit.

Grayson, who reports no fresh injury worries for tonight’s encounter, said: “We have to prepare physically and mentally for probably the biggest game of the season at Peterborough.

“They will look where we are and at what we have done against Wolverhampton and it will be a far more difficult game for us than Saturday because the mental side of football plays a big part.

“But we have strong characters who want to put on a performance and get another three points.”

Echoing Grayson’s thoughts on the banana-skin nature of the game with Posh, midfielder Keith Southern added: “I do not disrespect anybody in this league. Anyone is capable of beating anybody else.

“Peterborough showed that a couple of weeks ago when they went to Hull and turned them over 3-1.

“If we are not at it, mentally and physically, they will turn us over.

“Forget about where we are in the league; you play on the day at this level and, hopefully, we will be on our game. We are in good form and in good spirits after Saturday and we can go there and beat them.

“The opening 45 minutes against Wolves was probably the best we have played this season.We set the standards in that first half on Saturday and we have got to keep it up. That is what it is all about.”
