United were stunned as Charlie Austin opened the scoring on 13 minutes to give Swindon a 1-0 interval lead.
Things got worse for United when Billy Painter headed home on the hour mark, before firing home a penalty three minutes later after Jonny Howson felled the Swindon striker.
