Town determined to atone in derby showdown

Since then, Powell’s men have improved markedly with last weekend’s win at Wigan Athletic moving Town up to 15th place and 11 points clear of trouble in the Championship.

Now, Coady believes Huddersfield “owe them one” when the two West Yorkshire rivals go head-to-head in a lunchtime kick-off at the John Smith’s Stadium.

The one-time Sheffield United loanee said: “We need to build on what we have done over the last few weeks and being at home where our form has been quite good we need to have a good go at them.

“They did not see the real Huddersfield Town at Elland Road. We have spoken about it before and we hated it as a club, as a team.

“It was the worst day of the season by a country mile so, for us, it is about amending the errors that we made at Elland Road.

“It is massive for the fans and the good things for us is that all the lads know how much it hurt us as a team and what a massive downer it was on the season so, hopefully, we can put things right.

“Leeds is a massive game for us and we owe them one,” said the Liverpool product.

One man hoping to bring his own experience of derby football to Huddersfield’s quest for three points is David Edgar, who recently joined the Terriers on loan from Birmingham City.

The 27-year-old has played in not only Midlands derbies but was also involved in Burnley v Blackburn Rovers grudge matches so he knows exactly what to expect this weekend.

“I know how big a derby it is and I am looking forward to it,” said Edgar, whose debut came at the DW Stadium.

“I have been on the bench a couple of times for the Burnley-Blackburn derby which is a massive game with real animosity in it.

“You have to get on with it, do the same things.

“There has to be the same preparation, but a derby does have that bit of an edge to it. We will just approach it as normal.”
