Football round-up Liam Delap's speed attracts Hull City, new contracts for Championship pair, Sheffield United look to Sweden for first signing and more

The Tigers fought off competition from home and abroad to make the 20-year-old striker their first summer signing, on a season-long loan.

Delap scored only four Championship goals on loan at Stoke City and Preston North End last term but should be better for the experience. The interest in him suggest others in the game see it that way too.

Hull did not get as much as they would have wanted out of injury-hit centre-forwards Oscar Estupinan and Benjamin Tetteh in 2022-23.

“Liam completely fits into the way we play,” commented Rosenior. “He’s got outstanding physical attributes and is a great finisher. He’s got freak(ish) speed, is aggressive and can run in behind, which is one of the areas we wanted to address.”

Hull have also shown an interest in loaning ex-Everton left-back Ruben Vinagre from Sporting Lisbon. Reports in Portugal suggest the loan will have the option of a £13m permanent move as City work around financial fair play restrictions.

"I would like to spend two times what I can," admitted owner Acun Ilicali. "We are only allowed a budget of £17m minus per year, we are spending up to the limits."

Rotherham United defender Grant Hall says he is ready to show fans the best of him after signing a new deal with the club.

The 31-year-old was plagued by hamstring injuries in 2022-23, but follows Tyler Blackett, Sean Morrison and Lee Pelter in agreeing a new contract.

"I feel fully fit and raring to go," he said. "I really want to have a full pre-season. I don’t think Rotherham fans have seen the very best of me. There’s a lot more to come."

Steven Gerrard is said to be reconsidering joining Al-Ettifaq as manager having been linked to the vacant Sheffield Wednesday job.

The lack of a manager has not stopped Reece James making his loan from Blackpool permanent, or Marvin Johnson’s new contract.
