Carlo Ancelotti on Leeds United and Marcelo Bielsa

EVERTON manager Carlo Ancelotti believes that absence of supporters is proving a significant factor in several Premier League sides boasting better form on the road so far in 2020-21 than at their home grounds - with next opponents Leeds United and his own side falling into that category.

Only two sides, Manchester United (27) and Leicester City (23) have taken more points on their travels than Everton, who have amassed 19 points from nine matches and been beaten just twice.

Leeds have collected one point less on the road, with 18 points from 11 matches thus far, with Marcelo Bielsa's side having won three of their last four away fixtures in the top-flight

On home soil, it is a different story for both sides.

Everton have picked up 14 points from ten matches and been beaten four times, including by Leeds and head into Wednesday's game at Elland Road on the back of a disappointing 2-0 home reverse to Newcastle United.

Leeds, meanwhile, have taken a modest 11 points from nine home matches and only four Premier League sides have taken fewer home points than the Yorkshire outfit thus far.

Meanwhile, Everton will be without England keeper Jordan Pickford - who has a side injury - for the game at Leeds with key midfielder Allan also still out, but former Leeds United midfielder Fabian Delph is back in the squad and available for the trip to his old club.

On the issue regarding away form, Ancelotti said: “This is the explanation. How important are the supporters? This is the clear explanation.

"There are unpredictable results, the only reason is because the home team doesn’t have the support.”

On the meeting with Leeds and locking horns with another world-renowned figure in management in Marcelo Bielsa, the Italian added: “Leeds are in a good position, it’s always entertaining games against them.

"Of course it will be difficult, they beat us at Goodison.

" We have confidence because away usually we do better, but we have to know it will be a game with a lot of intensity.”

"I met him (Bielsa) only one time and it was not good for me, because we lost! I hope to equalise tomorrow!”

New recruit Joshua King, who moved to Goodison Park for the remainder of the campaign from Championship outfit Bournemouth on transfer deadline day, will add to the Blues options for the trip across the Pennines.

Ancelotti commented: “I think they (King, Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin) can play all together.

"The fact that he can cover all the positions in the front is helpful for us. The squad is quite complete in this moment, I am satisfied.”
