Barnsley FC forward seeking a favour from Leeds United

BARNSLEY forward Jacob Brown is desperate for Leeds United to do the Reds a favour by beating Charlton Athletic on the Championship's final day of reckoning in the relegation stakes on Wednesday.

While Leeds are justifiably basking in the glow of their status as newly-crowned second-tier champions, the Addicks are among several clubs fighting for their lives at the foot of the table alongside Barnsley, Hull City, Luton Town, Birmingham City, Middlesbrough and Wigan - who have been handed a 12-point penalty for entering administration. The Latics have appealed.

For Barnsley to survive, they must triumph at Brentford - in with a chance of automatic promotion if they win and West Brom do not beat QPR - and hope that Luton fail to defeat Blackburn Rovers and Charlton lose at Elland Road.

Halifax-born Brown, who made his professional debut for Barnsley at Brentford's Griffin Park home, said: "I have seen a lot of my (Leeds United supporting) friends celebrating on Snapchat and Instagram. They (Leeds) have been unreal all season and done really well.

"We are just hoping that they can perform as they have been doing on the last day as well and help us out.

"We need to focus on ourselves to get the three points. But if other results go our way, it is a massive help.

"We would obviously much rather be already safe on the last day. But if you look back earlier in the season when we were not winning for so many games, you can start to think that it is not going to be our season.

"In even more recent times, we were nine or seven points adrift; even then you are thinking it is a big ask.

"To now go into the last game, knowing we can still do it - even though it is not in our hands and we still need results to go our way - if we do enough to stay up, it will be a massive achievement.

"For a lot of us, it is our first full season in the Championship and it would be a massive moment and such a big thing for the club."
