I am going nowhere, insists Terriers’ boss Clark

The Terriers manager is carving out a decent reputation in the game after leading the Yorkshire club to a 40-game and counting unbeaten run.

Town sit second in League One and travel to Yeovil Town this weekend looking to move another step closer to the all-time Football League unbeaten run, set by Nottingham Forest who went 42 games before losing.

Asked about the speculation linking him with the vacancies at Leicester and Portsmouth, Clark said: “I am not applying for any job – I am a Huddersfield manager working for a fantastic man and a fantastic board.

“Whether it is just to fill areas in newspapers, I don’t know, but there has certainly not been any contact with me or my representatives.

“I have never had a phone call from Dean (Hoyle, the Huddersfield chairman) or (chief executive) Nigel Clibbens, to say that they have had contact.

“I am here – I have never heard anything about any other job and that is the way it is.

“It is the same when my players get linked and you ask me. I think everyone should be proud inside the club if that’s the case because it means we’re doing something right.”

Pompey have received more than 50 applications for the Fratton Park manager’s job following Steve Cotterill’s switch to Nottingham Forest.

Chief executive David Lampitt is currently sifting through the candidates, although he does not have to rush an appointment as caretaker bosses Stuart Gray and Guy Whittingham have picked up two wins from their three matches in charge.

“Getting the right man is more important for us than getting someone in quickly,” Lampitt said.

“We have a good, credible and testing process to get what we want.

“It’s the number one priority. It’s not that we want to take more time than is necessary but we want to get it right.”

Former Bournemouth and Doncaster manager Sean O’Driscoll is currently the bookmakers’ favourite to land the role.

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy is hopeful last season’s top scorer Steven Fletcher will be able to resume training next week.

The Scotland international has missed Wolves’ last two games with a calf problem.

But the news was encouraging after Fletcher had an injection in the troublesome area following a visit to the specialist.

McCarthy said: “Hopefully Fletch will be able to train next week. He had an injection which has been successful.”

Fletcher scored 12 times for Wolves last season.
