Belief in coach has led to Huddersfield Town resurgence

It was a time when rest was firmly off the agenda for Josh Koroma and his Terriers’ team-mates, with head coach Carlos Corberan presiding over double training sessions in a bid to get his squad ready for the busy mid-autumn and winter programme.

Two impressive results against Derby County and Swansea City, which were high on energy, organisation and tactical flexibility, have ensured that the ends are justifying the means.

Handling intense periods of Championship activity in three-game weeks goes a long way towards being successful at this level and it is clearly something not lost upon Corberan, now hoping to sign off a grand week on a winning note against Preston on Saturday.

Koroma, who played his part in an excellent team effort against Derby on Tuesday as Town continued their recent resurgence, said: “It is hard work, especially over the international break when we are doing double sessions to try and get ourselves as fit as possible for the games coming up.

“We have been working hard, but it is paying off because we are getting results on the pitch.

“We worked as a team (against Derby) and it was a good team win. We got three points and hopefully we can go again on Saturday.”

The notion of successful sides attacking and defending as a team was showcased against Derby, with the front three of Koroma, Fraizer Campbell and Isaac Mbenza showing a ferocious work ethic without the ball.

Alongside their team-mates, they were cajoled incessantly from the sidelines for the game’s entirety by Corberan and his assistant, Jorge Alarcón, with Town’s players clearly buying into the footballing philosophies of the club’s new coaching team, judging by recent evidence.

Koroma, who netted his first goal for the club last weekend in a 2-1 victory at the Liberty Stadium, added: “From the start of the season, everyone believed – even after the Norwich game when we lost 1-0 against a very good team.

“We knew we played well and then had a tough game at Brentford. But we all still believed in the manager and now we are finding the results.”
