Huddersfield Town head coach Carlos Corberan hails outstanding Lewis O'Brien

O'Brien gave Town an early lead to crown an impressive afternoon with the indefatigable midfielder having produced a timely rewind to his outstanding form of last season in recent times.

Brentford levelled early in the second half through Mads Bech Sorensen and pushed for a winner, but Town held firm to extend their unbeaten sequence to five matches.

Corberan said: "I think the performance of the team was good and it was very good in some moments. For me, the team defended well to get the point and played with a lot of personality in the first minutes in attack and after the injury to (Alex) Vallejo, we could not get the same feeling when we had the ball.

"I think O'Brien has done fantastic work in the last games and when he played with that intensity, it creates an unbelievable feeling around the team. He is such an important player for this team and is helping us to get positive results."

O'Brien was also unfortunate not to be awarded a second-half penalty after he appeared to be caught by Brentford rival Saman Ghoddos.

The midfielder said: "I’m not a player who goes down easily but I felt contact and I felt I should have had a penalty.”

On the performance, he added: "We worked hard during the week on trying to press a team that likes to play out from the back and that worked for the goal.

"At half-time. we spoke about working a bit harder because we knew they would come out hard and it was a bit unlucky for their goal."

On the situation with Vallejo, who was replaced by Juninho Bacuna after 23 minutes - he was still feeling the after-effects of an injury in the first few minutes after he went down in an aerial challenge, Corberan commented: "He had a kick in the head and his body reacted a little bit and he did not feel well.

"He had the personality to continue in the game and I am very proud of him and my players, but unfortunately he could not continue helping the team. He is much better now and it is positive."
