Huddersfield Town 1 Walsall 1: Terriers make historic point

A 1-1 draw against Walsall saw Town extend their undefeated sequence to 42 matches, thereby emulating the feat of Brian Clough’s Nottingham Forest in the late 1970s.

However, Lee Clark’s men dropped two vital points in the race for promotion against a Walsall team near the bottom of the table.

After Lee Novak fired Town in front on 66 minutes, stabbing home a Gary Roberts’ cross from close range, the visitors equalised on 78 minutes when substitute Jamie Paterson curled a superb 18-yard shot into the bottom left hand corner of the net.

The result was tough luck on the home side who totally dominated the opening period.

Town created a number of opportunities to break the deadlock but were thwarted by a combative Walsall defence.

Huddersfield felt they should have had a penalty in the dying moments of the game when Jack Hunt went down after jinking into the area.

But the referee booked Hunt for diving and Town had to be content with a share of the spoils.
