For a bit of fun in the meantime, we fired up the latest edition of Football Manager, and simulated the game beyond the summer and into the future. We had a look at the starting XI, key subs and manager it predicts will be on show for the Terriers on the opening day of the 2020/21 campaign.
5. CB: Joe Worrall
Oh, that is a lovely bit of business. Huddersfield raise some funds, dig deep and splash £6.5m on the promising defender. He's worth double what they paid. Photo: Paul Harding
6. LB: Andy Yiadom
Snapped up over the summer for a shade over £2m, the Ghana international is given the left-back spot. Photo: Laurence Griffiths
7. CM: Mo Besic
The Bosnian midfielder still can't find a place in Everton's side, but he starts for the Terriers after joining on loan, following a temporary spell with Chris Wilder's Sheffield United. Photo: Catherine Ivill
8. CM: Juninho Bacuna
Bacuna dazzles in pre-season, playing a pivotal role in wins over the likes of Besiktas and Leganes. He earns his place in the midfield duo. Photo: George Wood
