Rovers head into tomorrow’s League One home clash with MK Dons in a disappointing 17th position, having won just once in the league at the Keepmoat Stadium since the end of March, with Dickov coming in for increased criticism with sections of the club’s support.

Dickov has been handed a dual boost for the MK Dons clash with defender and Doncaster boy Andy Butler arriving on loan from neighbouring Sheffield United until early January and Main having shown no side-effects from substitute appearances against Leyton Orient and Fleetwood Town.

The former Middlesbrough forward, who had been laid low by knee injury after an impressive opening-day scoring debut at Yeovil Town, said: “I am back training and being involved with all the lads is a lot better than sitting and watching in the gym and I am happy to be back.

“The injury wasn’t ideal as I came down and was feeling good and fit and had a great start scoring on the opening day of the season.

“It was unfortunate, but it is just one of those things in football.”

He added: “I have had more than a weeks’ training now and thirty minutes down at Fleetwood and on Tuesday night, I came on for another half an hour now and that’s good.

“It’s just down to the manager now and whether he feels I look sharp enough in training to get the nod from the start. We’ll see.”
