Sharp expresses appreciation to supporters after standing ovation

Doncaster striker Billy Sharp has spoke of his appreciation at the support he has received from fans of all clubs following the death of his two-year-old son.

Sharp was given a standing ovation on Saturday by the Ipswich Town fans after he scored against them and helped Rovers to a 3-2 victory.

“The Ipswich fans were fantastic, I had a lump in my throat when I scored and they did that for me,” said Sharp. “I’d like to thank them for showing me that respect today.”

In statement on the Doncaster website, the club added: “We would like ot thank all of the Ipswich fans for their unique and amazing support and respect they showed to Billy Sharp.”

Leeds United are reportedly set to miss out on the signing of Mansfield Town defender Tom Naylor.

The 20-year-old had been coveted by a number of clubs such as Premier League club Queens Park Rangers, Hull and Charlton.

But it it is Derby County who looked to have wrapped up a loan move for highly-rated Naylor with a view to signing the defender permanently in the January transfer market.

Barnsley manager Keith Hill has bemoaned his club’s transfer budget compared to his Championship rivals after his side lost 2-0 at the hands of Brighton.

Hill said: “I heard in the week Gus Poyet say Brighton were placed 17th in the budget league.

“I don’t know where he gets his maths from, because we spent on 11 players probably half of what he spent on one player.”

Huddersfield Town right-back Jack Hunt will miss the first-round FA Cup clash at Swindon Town on Saturday after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season.

The defender picked up the one- match suspension during Saturday’s 1-1 stalemate with Walsall.

Rotherham United have been dealt an injury blow to Michael Raynes ahead of this weekend’s FA Cup first round fixture with Barrow.

Raynes will be unavailable for Saturday’s game and the following league match with Bradford City having been carried off at Northampton at the weekend suffering muscle damage to his knee and calf.
