Abdoulaye played last season with FC Honka in the Finnish Veikkausliiga but has been at Rovers for a few months.

Rovers manager Paul Dickov said: “He’s such an experienced defender and played a lot of games at a high level with Marseille in France, Bolton, West Brom and we are probably missing that little bit of experience at the minute and Abdoulaye will definitely bring that.”

Meanwhile, Barnsley have signed Liverpool and Northern Ireland youth international right-back, Ryan McLaughlin, on a 28-day loan.

The 19-year-old right-back said: “It’s great to be here and there are some good games coming up which I am looking forward to being involved in.”

McLaughlin is on loan until February 8.
