Carlos Corberan explains why he made 11 changes for Huddersfield Town's FA Cup clash with Plymouth Argyle

Carlos Corberan cited fitness concerns for key members of his Huddersfield Town squad as the prime reason for making 11 changes against Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup.

The Terriers exited the competition at the third round stage for the third season in a row as the visitors triumphed 3-2 over a youthful Huddersfield line-up.

Only four of the starting 11 from Town's previous outing against Reading had completed a full week's training, forcing Corberan into the changes.

“Of the 11 players who started against Reading, only four trained fully all week," revealed Corberan.

“This is why we needed to build the courage and experience of some young players. When we need them in the Championship, they will be more ready.”

Plymouth were more effective with the ball, scoring three goals with just 42 per cent of possession.

Corberan felt his side made life too easy for the visiting attackers in the first half but was happy with how they tightened up in the second 45.

He added: "It was important that the players felt the responsibility of trying to keep the club in the competition.

“The start of the game was positive, but then we couldn’t dominate the game enough in the first half.

“We did that better in the second half.”

Strikes from Ryan Hardie, Panutche Camara and Plymouth captain Joe Edwards cancelled out first-half efforts from Romoney Crichlow and Aaron Rowe.

It is the first time that Plymouth have advanced past Huddersfield in the competition, with Town progressing in the previous four Cup ties between the clubs - the last of which was played in 1966.
