Callum Brittain on the scary side of Barnsley FC head coach Valerien Ismael

With his side trailing 2-1, Ismael let rip at half-time and angrily told his players what he thought about their uncharacteristically passive first-half performance in no uncertain terms.

Brittain and his team-mates took the hint and delivered one of their best 45 minutes of a season which is turning into something remarkable by scoring two unanswered goals.

Attention now switched to Wednesday night’s Championship game with Wycombe, with Brittain and his colleagues assigned with showing the same mentality and desire that they displayed in the second period against the Cherries from the off.

They will know what will potentially await them at the interval if not.

Brittain said: “It was a little bit scary, but motivating. When someone believes in you as much as the gaffer does, his words come across as really inspiring and it makes you believe and be more determined to go out and do what we did.

“If you are not on it in any game in the Championship, you will get punished. We were not on it in the first half (at Bournemouth) and we got punished.

“Luckily, the gaffer got into us a bit at half-time, but also made us believe that we can turn this around and we as a team believed in ourselves as well.

“The first half was not good enough by any means of standards from any of us and the gaffer really indicated that at half-time. But the second half was probably one of the best performances we have displayed this season.

“That is what we are all about, good at and stick to and has got us to where we are at the moment.”

Barnsley report no fresh injury concerns for the trip to bottom-placed Wycombe, where they are seeking to extend their unbeaten sequence to 12 matches.

Ismael added: “At the moment, it is all good and all the players are available, apart from the two guys out at the outset in Ben Williams and Liam Kitching.

“It is a good moment and good time for us to keep all the players together.

“For sure, Wycombe is another game where we have to fight. Their manager has done an incredible job with a clear way to play football and they are the underdogs all the time, but they give everything and never give up."
