Barnsley's Colace signs new deal

BARNSLEY midfielder Hugo Colace has ended uncertainty over his future by signing a new two-year deal at Oakwell.

A free agent after initially stalling on an invitation to stay, Colace spoke with Championship rivals Swansea City and Leicester City along with clubs in Mexico, Italy, and Russia.

Manager Mark Robins is delighted the Argentinian has decided to stay and believes the retention of the 26-year-old represents another step in the right direction.

"The contract has always been on the table and my hope was that he would eventually re-sign for us," said Robins. "With so much interest, he needed to take time to think about it.

"The important thing is that he has come back to us and signed the contract that was on offer. He could have secured more financial rewards by going elsewhere, but he believes in what we are doing and couldn't turn his back on the supporters."
