Barnsley issue fighting talk ahead of survival encounter with wounded Yorkshire rivals Hull City

BARNSLEY head coach Gerhard Struber says that his Reds side are prepared for an almighty fight in Wednesday evening's Championship encounter at wounded Yorkshire rivals Hull City.

The Tigers are in a tailspin on the back of an eight-match winless sequence in the second-tier stretching back to New Year's Day and victory for the Reds - who returned to the bottom of the table following Luton's surprise win over Brentford on Tuesday night - would move them within seven points of Hull with 11 games of the season remaining.

Despite their position, Struber's side head into the game in renewed heart following deserved victories in clean-sheet win overs Middlesbrough and Fulham, but the Austrian insists that his side cannot rest on their laurels in any way whatsoever and has pledged that they will continue to scrap for their lives between now and May 2.

Struber, seeking the first double of his Oakwell tenure with the maiden victory of his time in charge of Barnsley arriving in the reverse fixture in South Yorkshire in November, said: "It was a good memory with my first victory against Hull and we played with a good energy and style and celebrated the win.

"We have to reproduce this character and mentality from winners. This is my responsibility.

"It is a good time at the moment, but the team must bring the same energy and attitude to pick up the next important points. That is our responsibility.

"When we give all we can bring and every player is on his personal limit, then it is not easy for Hull.

"It is the next step to see our fans that we can constantly bring wins and clean sheets. It is the responsibility for me, my staff and my whole team.

"It is a big game and it is our responsibility to show a big fight. It is not an easy game, but a big fight.

"When we are in our fighting model and with 100 per cent attitude, we can win."
