The former Bury player, in outstanding form at the tail end of the season when he played an important role in the club's thrilling 'Great Escape' from relegation, is now contracted at Oakwell until the summer of 2023.

The club also have a further year's option in their favour regarding Styles, who only turned 20 in March.

Styles, who joined Barnsley from hometown club Bury for an undisclosed fee in August 2018, made 18 appearances for the Reds last term.

The Lancastrian started the club's last four matches of the season and memorably found the net in the Reds' dramatic 2-1 final-day victory at Brentford.

On his deal, Styles said: “I’m pleased to have signed a new contract and commit my future to the club. The end of last season was incredible both for me personally and for the team, but we must build on that and look forward to the future.

“We have a really talented young side and it’s brilliant to be a part of. We all look out for each other, there is a real family feel around the club. I’m enjoying my football here and can't wait to be back playing in front of our fans at Oakwell.”

Reds CEO Dane Murphy added: “Callum’s efforts towards the end of last season were remarkable. We will all remember his contribution at Griffin Park, but to adapt so comfortably, so quickly to a new position is a perfect example of his character and the trust that Gerhard has in him.

"

"We are fully aware of the talent that Callum possesses and we look forward to watching him continue to grow and develop over the coming years.”

Styles follows the likes of goalkeeper Jack Walton and midfielders Matty Wolfe and Romal Palmer in signing fresh terms at Oakwell this summer.
