AFC Wimbledon v York City: Minstermen's chief Jackie McNamara sets survival target

For a club whose season has been going off the rails for months, such an inconvenience is perhaps to be expected.

Last weekend may have brought an end to the Minstermen’s five-game losing run but a point at home to Barnet merely confirmed what everyone has known for some time – York are deep in trouble.

Seven points separate Jackie McNamara’s side from safety in the Football League and since the advent of two clubs being relegated in 2003 no team has ever overcome such a deficit with 10 games to go.

Sobering stuff but McNamara insists all is not lost for his side. The Scot is targeting at least six wins from a run-in that includes plenty of meetings with teams chasing either automatic promotion or the play-offs.

“We have to attack teams and we have to go for it,” added the City manager.

Michael Coulson, who this week signed a pre-contract agreement to join Scottish Premier League side St Johnstone on a free transfer in the summer, misses the trip with a groin problem, while Jake Hyde has missed training with a similar injury.

Bradley Fewster, the loanee striker from Middlesbrough, has recovered from his tight hamstring and could start along with Russell Penn, who is available again after serving a one-game ban following his red card at Dagenham & Redbridge.

Dons striker Adebayo Akinfenwa, a major threat to York in recent seasons, is banned.
